Cirrus records are often displayed in a data grid. These data grids provide a number of ways for the user to interact with the data. Some data grids may be read only, limiting interaction to organizing the displayed data and generating exports. Some data grids are more interactive, offering editing and deleting options. Cirrus data grids will remember your settings, so you can set up each data grid to display the data you want it to display and expect it to display that way after you log out of Cirrus and log back in. This topic covers how users can interact with data grids across Cirrus.
NOTE: Not all data grids offer the full functionality outline below. Any limits on the organization of or interaction with the data in a data grid are based on the limitations of the data, the intended function of the Cirrus page the data grid appears on, or the way the data was displayed in Springbrook V7.
- The simplest method to organize data in a data grid it to click a column header in order to sort the data by that column.
- Data can sorted in either ascending or descending order by clicking the column header.
- When the data grid data is being sorted by a column header, a small up arrow or down arrow will display next to the column title.
- The number of records displayed in the data grid can be changed via the Items per page drop-down.
- The default number of records to be displayed is set at 100. If that number is changed, the new selected number will be set as the display default for all subsequent visits.
- The total number of records displayed across all pages will be displayed in the bottom-right corner of the data grid.
- Some Cirrus data grids are set up with an item limit in order to prevent performance issues. In the event that the item limit is exceeded, a warning icon will display next to the number of records displayed and a data limit exceeded message will appear when you hover over the number. In this case, narrow the search criteria in order to display a full set of search results.
- The order of the columns can also be edited by dragging a column heading to a new position in the data grid.
- A small set of arrows will show you where the column will be placed.
- Additional columns can be displayed or hidden via the Columns drop-down.
- While some columns are displayed in the data grid by default, all columns that can be either displayed or hidden.
- Click the Columns drop-down menu to see a list of the available columns for the data grid. Click the toggle next to each column you would like to display. The Select All toggle can be used to select all or deselect all columns.
- The search field in the drop-down menu can be helpful when a data grid has a large number of columns.
- The data in the data grid can also be grouped.
- Click and drag a column header into the area at the top of the data grid titled Drag a column header here to group its column. The data in the data grid will now be grouped by that column heading. You can drag a drop a second column header into this area to organize the data by a sub-group within the first group.
- If this area is not displayed above the data grid, click Toggle Grouping under the Ellipses button .
- Once a column header has been dropped into this section, you can click it to change the sort from ascending to descending and back again.
- Click and drag a column header into the area at the top of the data grid titled Drag a column header here to group its column. The data in the data grid will now be grouped by that column heading. You can drag a drop a second column header into this area to organize the data by a sub-group within the first group.
- Some Cirrus data grids will display a vertical ellipsis icon drop-down in the data grid header. Click this icon to display the Toggle Grouping, Reset Grid Defaults, and export options below.
- The Toggle Grouping button is used to display or hide the Drag a column header here to group its column section. If you have already specified a column grouping, this button will not remove it. It will simply hide that section of the data grid until it is clicked again.
- You can use the Reset Grid Defaults to reset the data grid back to the standard display parameters. This will remove all grouping, hide all non-default columns, and reorder the columns to their original order.
Export the data from the data grid
- The Excel Export and CSV Export options are used to export the contents of the data grid to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet or a comma separated value file.
- All the data across all pages in the data grid will be exported.
- The data will be exported in the same organized and grouped manner it is displayed.
- Some Cirrus data grids will display a vertical ellipsis icon drop-down in the data grid header. Click this icon to display the Excel Export and CSV Export options below.
Interact with the data
- Some data grids allow users to interact with the data. This can involve selecting individual or groups of line items in the data grid for the selection step in a batch process.
- Use the Edit button to open an edit section to the right of the data grid or the related maintenance window. Once you have made your edits, click the Save button to save the updates.
- Use the Delete button delete a selected line item. You will be asked to confirm the delete command before the line item is removed from the data grid.
- Some data grid cells can be edited by simply clicking in the cell, making the desired updates, and click the Update button at the top of the data grid.
