How to Download Backups from the SaaS FTP Backup Service

This document outlines how to download the database backup file created under the SaaS FTPS Backup Service for Springbrook cloud customers who have contracted for it. This service creates a daily backup and makes it available to via FTPS.

Objectives

This document provides a general overview on how to perform the necessary setup for customers to download the backup.

Install Required Client Software WinSCP

  1. Browse to https://winscp.net/eng/download.php and download the installation package for WinSCP.
  2. Launch the setup program (ie ? winscp575setup.exe).
  3. Select English as the language to use.
  4. At the Welcome screen click Next to continue.
  5. At the License Agreement screen click Accept to continue.
  6. At the Setup type screen select Typical Installation and click Next to continue.
  7. At the Initial user settings screen select Commander and click Next to continue.
  8. At the Read to Install screen click Install to begin the installation.
  9. At the Completing the WinSCP Setup Wizard screen click Finish.

Create Site in WinSCP

  1. Launch WinSCP
  2. Under File protocol select FTP
  3. Under Encryption select TLS/SSL Explicit encryption
  4. Under Host name type springbrookftp.northcentralus.cloudapp.azure.com
  5. Under Port number leave the default 21
  6. Under username type the username supplied by Springbrook
  7. Under password type the password supplied by Springbrook
  8. Click Save and type a name for the site (Springbrook Cloud for example), and optionally create a desktop shortcut if desired.

Connect and Download Backup using WinSCP

  1. Launch WinSCP
  2. Select the site name and click Login at the bottom.
  3. If you receive a server certificate warning click Yes at the bottom to accept the certificate supplied.
  4. If prompted, type the password supplied by Springbrook.
  5. Once connected, the WinSCP screen will be displayed with your local folder tree on the left and the FTPS server folder tree on the right.
  6. On the left select the local folder where you want the backup file copied to.
  7. On the right select the backup file that you want to copy and drag it to the left side of the screen to begin copying.
  8. WinSCP will open a screen confirming where you want to copy the file to.  Select the default or change to the desired location and click Ok to begin the transfer.
  9. Once the transfer is completed you can exit out of WinSCP.

Note: Springbrook Database Backups are currently Compressed SQL 2017 and should be anticipated to be on latest patch/cumulative update. The Springbrook Database is targeted to upgrade to SQL 2019 in Q1 2023.
